Urszula Pruchniewska is an Assistant Professor of Communication Studies at Kutztown University of Pennsylvania. She holds a Ph.D. in Media and Communication from Temple University in Philadelphia, PA. Urszula Pruchniewska

Urszula teaches Social Media Theory and Strategy, User Experience (UX) Design and Research, Social Media Ethics, and Communication Research and Writing. She previously taught classes and presented guest lectures on gender and the media, media and society, popular culture, journalism research methods, intercultural communication, academic writing, and English language learning.

Her research focuses on digital technologies, social media, user experience, online activism, and gender. Some topics she has studied and written about include: the experiences of women who use secret Facebook groups for support, community, and career advancement; how women strategically use Bumble the dating app to simultaneously find love and avoid sexual harassment; and how female entrepreneurs use social media to promote themselves. In conjunction with her doctoral work, Urszula studied toward a Graduate Certificate in Gender, Sexuality and Women’s Studies from Temple University. She is a member of the UNESCO Global Alliance on Media and Gender Research and Policy Committee. She is also a reviewer for various academic conferences (including the Association of Internet Researchers annual conference and the International Communication Association annual conference) and journals (including New Media & Society, the Journal of Computer-Mediated Communication, and Feminist Media Studies). 

Urszula earned a Master of Journalism from Temple University, a B.Sc. (Hons) in Psychology from Victoria University of Wellington, and a B.A. in Audiovisual Production Management from the University of Johannesburg. She has worked in New Zealand, England, and the U.S. across a range of media and communication industries, including video editing, digital content management, advertising, and strategic communication.
